The Federal High Court in Abuja will today, April 1, 2026, deliver its ruling on a suit seeking to prohibit Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from participating in any activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Justice Peter Odo Lifu is expected to rule on the ex-parte application filed by aggrieved members of the ADC’s Wuse Ward Executive following Kingibe’s suspension from the party. The senator was suspended on March 10, 2026, by the Wuse Ward Executive over allegations of anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and disregard for the ADC Constitution. The suspension was reportedly ratified by two-thirds of the ward leaders. Plaintiffs Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel, suing on behalf of themselves and other ward members in suit number FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, are seeking an interim injunction to restrain Kingibe from parading herself as an ADC member. Through their counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kolawole Olowookere, they prayed the court to bar her from attending meetings, performing party functions, issuing statements in the name of the ADC, or interfering with the ward’s administration, including access to party records and registers. The applicants claimed that despite due notification of her suspension, Kingibe has continued to hold parallel meetings and use her security details to intimidate the ward executive committee. They argued that her actions constitute a flagrant violation of the party’s constitution and internal mechanisms. The court had earlier ordered substituted service on the senator after direct service proved difficult. This development reflects ongoing internal tensions within the ADC at the ward level in the FCT as the party gears up for future political activities. The ruling could determine whether Senator Kingibe can continue operating within the party structure in the immediate term.
