Coventry City resorted to Pidgin English on social media while celebrating Frank Onyeka’s superb strike in their 3-2 win over Derby County in the Championship. The English second division table-toppers took the lead on 12 minutes thanks to Onyeka’s excellent finish from just outside the area. The Nigerian midfielder, known as The Tank, exchanged passes before sending a first-time, rising shot into the top corner to hand Coventry the lead. It was Onyeka’s first goal for the club since joining on loan from Brentford in the January transfer window. It was also his first at club level since March 13, 2024, when he scored for Brentford against Sheffield United in the Premier League. The club celebrated the goal with the pidgin English caption, “Frank wetin be that” on its X account, as a nod to the energetic midfielder’s wonder-strike. The 28-year-old played all 90 minutes of the match, with Jack Rudoni netting an 80th-minute winner to ensure Frank Lampard’s side opened an 11-point lead over second-placed Millwall in the race for promotion to the English Premier League (EPL). Onyeka has been an important part of the club since his arrival, playing in nine of Coventry’s ten league matches, with the club victorious in eight matches as they look set to return to the EPL after 25 years.
