The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) of pressuring the owner of its chosen convention venue with threats of license revocation. In a statement on Monday via X, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi revealed that the management of the Rainbow Event Centre informed the party of intense external pressure after the party had paid all required fees and signed a contract for the facility. “After paying all the fees required and setting up for our convention tomorrow, the owner of Rainbow Event Centre has just informed us that he has come under pressure from the FCDA and the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, that if he allows the ADC the use of his facilities, his license will be revoked,” Abdullahi stated. Despite the alleged threats, the party insisted it will proceed with its national convention as scheduled on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja. “We have already signed the contract with him. We will hold our convention tomorrow as planned at the Rainbow Event Centre. We will not bow to this creeping tyranny. And definitely not to this petty tyrant,” Abdullahi added. The development comes after the ADC reportedly faced difficulties securing major venues like Eagle Square and the Velodrome at the National Stadium. Wike had earlier dismissed claims that the party was denied access to Eagle Square, stating that no formal request was received from the ADC. The party, led by former Senate President David Mark, described the situation as an attempt to undermine democratic processes ahead of the convention.
