The Lagos State Government has clarified that permits and administrative fees for solar power installations apply only to residents of its social housing estates, not to private homeowners or tenants across the state. The clarification came after a viral video on Tuesday showed officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Housing’s monitoring and compliance unit confronting a resident over solar panels installed on his home. In the footage, the officials told the resident he must obtain approval and pay a fee before proceeding with the installation. Reacting, the state government said the regulation is specific to social housing estates managed by the ministry to ensure structural safety and compliance with estate guidelines. It stressed that private property owners and tenants are not required to pay any fee or seek ministry approval to install solar panels.
