In 2026, Mali is grappling with a multifaceted crisis characterized by insecurity, socio-economic challenges, and inadequate health and protection services, as highlighted by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The ongoing climate shocks and a fragile health system have exacerbated vulnerabilities, particularly among women, children, internally displaced persons, and individuals with disabilities. An estimated 5.1 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, with nearly 3.4 million requiring protection services, including 2.5 million needing support for gender-based violence. UNFPA has identified a funding shortfall, having received only $3.54 million of the $11.55 million needed to provide essential sexual and reproductive health services and GBV prevention programs, which are critical for addressing the urgent needs of the affected populations.
