The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a strong condemnation following the killing of Mali’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Lieutenant General Sadio Camara, during a terrorist attack on April 25, 2026. Camara was fatally injured in a coordinated assault that included a suicide car bomb targeting his residence in Kati, near Bamako, where he engaged the attackers in a firefight. He later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. In its statement, Nigeria expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the high-ranking official, emphasizing the need to denounce such acts of terrorism, which have heightened security concerns in the Sahel region amid ongoing violence from jihadist groups and separatist rebels.
