The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has issued a warning regarding the precarious food security situation in Somalia, which is currently facing a combination of prolonged drought, the impacts of Middle East conflict, and the anticipated effects of El Niño-induced flooding. The ongoing conflict has led to soaring food and water prices, significantly diminishing household purchasing power and disrupting trade and supply chains. Government data indicates that fuel prices in Mogadishu have surged, exacerbating inflation across essential commodities and logistics. As a result, an estimated 5.5 million people are projected to experience severe acute food insecurity by mid-2026, with urgent humanitarian support deemed necessary to address the escalating crisis.
