On April 23, 2026, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of Bangladesh issued a forecast indicating significant risks of flash flooding in the Haor regions, including Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, and Netrokona, with the risk period expected from April 28 to May 3. Hydrological monitoring has shown rising water levels in several rivers, although they remain below danger thresholds for now. Heavy rainfall is anticipated, with projections suggesting cumulative rainfall could reach approximately 300 mm, raising concerns for localized flooding and potential displacement in vulnerable communities. In response, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has activated preparedness measures, deploying trained volunteers and pre-positioning emergency relief items, while the government has mobilized awareness campaigns and established control rooms to monitor the situation closely.
