As of February 28, 2026, Mozambique is experiencing a significant humanitarian crisis, with 661,532 internally displaced persons (IDPs), of whom 54 percent are children, marking a nine percent increase since the last assessment. The country has also seen a sharp rise in cholera cases, which have expanded to 23 districts, with 2,845 new cases reported, a 74 percent increase from previous figures. UNICEF has been actively involved in addressing these challenges, conducting preventive oral cholera vaccination campaigns that reached over 385,000 individuals and providing life-saving Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to 5,136 children under five suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Additionally, UNICEF has facilitated access to safe water for nearly 87,000 people through the rehabilitation and construction of boreholes and water supply systems, while also supporting the educational needs of 48,339 children across various provinces.
