In April 2025, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) initiated a DREF operation to address the humanitarian needs of Afghan returnees following the Government of Pakistan's Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan (IFRP), which mandated the return of undocumented Afghan nationals. This operation, supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), allocated CHF 416,010 to provide essential services such as medical care, psychosocial support, and protection-sensitive assistance to approximately 90,000 individuals at key border points, including Torkham and Chaman. The surge in returnees, driven by the enforcement of the IFRP, resulted in significant challenges for humanitarian service delivery, particularly for vulnerable groups. Despite the ongoing repatriation, Pakistan continues to host a substantial Afghan population facing various protection risks, prompting PRCS to extend its operations to ensure continued support and service delivery in response to the evolving situation.
