The Federal Government has officially approved the establishment of a Nigerian Aircraft Leasing Company aimed at improving access to aircraft for domestic and regional airlines. This decision was announced by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, following a Federal Executive Council meeting. The new company will function as a private-sector-led Special Purpose Vehicle, supported by the government, to facilitate structured access to modern aircraft fleets for Nigerian and regional operators, thereby addressing longstanding challenges in aircraft financing. The initiative is expected to enhance fleet capacity, reduce flight cancellations, and improve overall service efficiency for local airlines, while also positioning Nigeria as a key player in aviation financing across Africa.
