The Federated States of Micronesia has reported significant impacts from Typhoon Sinlaku, which affected Chuuk State and parts of Yap from early April 2026. Classified as a category 5 typhoon, Sinlaku reached wind speeds of 177 mph and caused widespread destruction, including heavy rainfall, storm surges, and saltwater intrusion, leading to prolonged service disruptions. In response to the disaster, the President of FSM and the United Nations Resident Coordinator have visited the affected areas to oversee and enhance relief efforts. Humanitarian needs remain critical, with ongoing distributions of food supplies and emergency non-food items, supported by financial allocations from the Pacific Risk Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company and the UN Central Emergency Relief Fund.
