The mother of Oghenemine Ogidi, a 28-year-old musician shot dead by police in Effurun, Delta State, has publicly demanded the death of the officers involved in the incident. Ogidi was shot by Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman while handcuffed and pleading for his life on April 26, 2026, after being arrested on suspicion of attempting to transport a firearm. Following the release of a video depicting the shooting, which sparked widespread outrage, the Delta State Police Command confirmed that Usman has been arrested and will face murder charges. The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the act as an extrajudicial killing and expressed condolences to Ogidi's family, promising that justice would be served.
