Youths from the Mgbakwu community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State staged a protest following the alleged killing of 26-year-old Chinyeaka Ike by operatives of the state’s Special Anti-Touting Squad. The incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, has sparked significant outrage among residents, particularly the youth, who have accused law enforcement agencies of ongoing harassment and extrajudicial actions. Hundreds of protesters marched to the Anambra State Government House in Awka on Friday, carrying the deceased's remains and demanding accountability from the government, while expressing their concerns over the violent tactics employed by enforcement agencies. In response, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ben Nwankwo, acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and announced that an investigation would be initiated by the police and the Department of State Services to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
