The Federal Government has earmarked N250 billion for the development of modern student hostels in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, as announced by Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa. During the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)/Public Private Partnership (PPP) hostel project at Lagos State University (LASU) and Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Alausa highlighted the initiative's role in enhancing youth education and accommodation. The funding will facilitate the construction of 500-bed space hostels in over 50 institutions, with a significant portion allocated to 24 PPP projects that will provide additional bed spaces. The minister indicated that these projects are expected to be completed within 24 months, with some initiatives fast-tracked for completion in under a year, aiming to address the immediate accommodation needs of students.
