The Abia State Government has allocated over N10 billion in its 2026 budget specifically for the clearance of long-overdue gratuities owed to retirees. Governor Alex Otti announced this initiative during the 2026 Workers Day celebration held in Umuahia, emphasizing that payments will commence for validated beneficiaries. Many of these gratuities have remained unpaid for more than twenty years, marking a significant step towards addressing the financial entitlements of retired civil servants in the state. The government aims to ensure that retirees receive their due benefits promptly.
