Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has announced his intention to run for the Bauchi South senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 elections. In an interview with BBC Hausa, he addressed the recent Supreme Court ruling that nullified the national convention of the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has contributed to ongoing leadership disputes within the party. Mohammed indicated that discussions regarding his political future are nearing completion, and he plans to clarify his position within a week, emphasizing that he has no interest in pursuing a presidential campaign. He also mentioned ongoing talks with notable opposition figures, including Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, regarding potential political collaboration, while asserting that the recent court ruling does not favor any faction within the PDP.
