Professor Olanrewaju Ajiboye, an expert in Social Gerontology, Gender, and Development Studies at Lagos State University, has raised concerns regarding the future of Nigeria's elderly population. He indicated that by the year 2050, around 25 million elderly Nigerians may face significant risks of poverty and insufficient support. Currently, the country has more than 14.8 million individuals aged 60 and above, which accounts for approximately five percent of the total population. This demographic trend highlights the urgent need for policies and programs aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the aging population in Nigeria.
