The United Nations has expressed serious concerns regarding the increasing violence against journalists, emphasizing the urgent need for these attacks to cease. In a statement released ahead of World Press Freedom Day, which is commemorated on May 3, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, highlighted the critical role of media workers in society. Currently, approximately 330 journalists around the globe are facing threats to their safety and well-being, underscoring the pressing need for protective measures to ensure their freedom to report without fear of violence or reprisal.
