CAF announces AFCON 2027 dates, qualifiers schedule

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the dates for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The tournament is set to commence with the opening match on Saturday, June 19, 2027, and conclude with the final on Saturday, July 17, 2027. CAF confirmed that these dates were approved by the FIFA Council during a recent meeting in Vancouver, Canada, and indicated that the specific host country for the opening match and final will be revealed at a later date. Additionally, the qualification process for the tournament will involve 48 teams, with the draw for the qualifiers scheduled for May 19, 2026, and matches taking place across three FIFA International Windows, culminating in a format that will see the top two teams from each of the 12 groups advance to the final tournament.
