Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has highlighted a significant increase in attacks on health care facilities globally, urging countries to take action in response to the failure to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2286, which was established ten years ago to protect health care in conflict zones. Since the resolution's adoption, there have been over 18,000 documented attacks on health care, with the number of incidents rising annually. PHR calls for the establishment of a UN expert group to evaluate the effectiveness of the resolution and to ensure accountability for violations against health care under international law. The organization emphasizes that the ongoing violence against health care not only endangers medical personnel and facilities but also severely impacts civilian populations and health systems in conflict areas.
