Caritas Internationalis has expressed its support for the upcoming second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) scheduled for May 5-8, 2026, in New York, emphasizing the importance of addressing implementation gaps in migration governance that prioritize human rights. The organization, which comprises 162 members dedicated to the dignity of displaced persons, highlighted the need for States to tackle the root causes of forced migration, including climate change and conflict, while urging a shift from punitive policies to humane approaches that uphold the rights of migrants. Caritas called for the expansion of safe migration pathways, the elimination of arbitrary detention, and guaranteed access to essential services for all migrants, regardless of their status. The statement also reinforced the moral imperative to protect vulnerable groups and ensure that all migration processes are transparent and rights-compliant, echoing the sentiments of Pope Francis regarding the dignity and rights of every individual.
