Making teaching first-order national profession

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), addressed the pressing challenges facing the teaching profession during a recent discussion. He emphasized the necessity for significant reforms aimed at attracting highly qualified individuals to the field. Oloyede proposed the creation of a National Institute of Professional Teachers, drawing inspiration from similar institutions in other countries, to enhance the recruitment, training, and reward systems for educators. This initiative is intended to elevate the status of teaching as a premier national profession.
