Country: Viet Nam Source: European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations On 2 May 2026, severe weather – characterised by thunderstorms, strong winds, lightning, and hail – was affecting northern Viet Nam, resulting in casualties. The affected provinces are Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, and Hanoi. According to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), as of 4 May, 12 people were injured, of whom 5 in Thai Nguyen and 7 in Tuyen Quang, while a total of 8 308 people have been affected. Additionally, 2 077 houses and 16 schools were damaged, and 2 300 hectares of crops were damaged. Over the next 48 hours, additional moderate rain is forecast across Viet Nam.
