Country: Philippines Source: European Commission's Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Mayon Volcano's volcanic activity in the Albay Province (southern Luzon) continues after its strong eruption on May 2, which affected 124 barangays in Albay. The towns of Camalig, Guinobatan, and Ligao City were hit hardest. As of May 6, lava flows were reported in the barangays of Basud, Bonga, and Misi within the last 24 hours, reaching a maximum length of 3.8 km. There have also been at least 17 pyroclastic flows, earthquakes, and rockfalls. According to the Philippine News Agency (PNA), as of May 5, at least 195 363 people have been displaced, 5 459 of whom are in evacuation centers. A total of 199 367 people have been affected. On the same day, the media reported that 132 schools were affected. The national government has provided support to the affected population. Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest) remains in effect; entry into the 6 km radius of the Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is forbidden.
