A recent analysis by UNICEF Office of Strategy and Evidence – Innocenti reveals that economic inequality in affluent nations adversely affects children's physical health and educational outcomes. The report, titled "Report Card 20: Unequal Chances – Children and economic inequality," examines data from 44 OECD and high-income countries, highlighting that children in the most unequal countries are 1.7 times more likely to be overweight compared to their peers in more equitable nations. It also indicates that nearly one in five children live in income poverty, with significant disparities in health and academic performance linked to family income levels. The report urges governments to implement policies aimed at reducing child poverty and improving support for disadvantaged communities to enhance children's wellbeing.
