The Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWS NET) has reported that between 1.0 to 2.49 million people in Uganda are currently experiencing food insecurity, particularly during the impending April to June lean season. The refugee population, primarily from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, faces significant challenges in accessing work and land due to local competition and other barriers. Additionally, rising fuel prices, influenced by international conflicts, are expected to exacerbate food costs, as transportation and production expenses increase. While staple food prices remain lower than previous years, the potential for future price hikes looms if fuel costs continue to rise, impacting the already vulnerable populations in the region.
