In Uganda, heavy rains during the March-April-May 2026 period have led to significant flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in Kamutur Subcounty of Bukedea District. Following a community alert on May 11, 2026, the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) initiated a rapid assessment, revealing that 289 households have been affected, with 81 individuals displaced. The floods, exacerbated by runoff from the Mt. Elgon highlands, pose serious risks to the vulnerable population, necessitating urgent emergency response efforts. The URCS continues to disseminate Early Warning advisories, while assessments in other affected subcounties are planned to determine the full extent of the impact and needs, which include shelter, food, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services.
