During a court session at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Sheikh Abdulkadir Sani, an Islamic cleric, testified via a video recording regarding his involvement with alleged coup plotters. He disclosed that the conspirators sought his spiritual assistance, requesting prayers for the success of their operation through an intermediary named Sanda. In the recording, Sani recounted warning the group that their coup would fail and that two members would betray them, which prompted a request for further prayers to avert this betrayal. The cleric clarified that the funds he received were intended solely for spiritual purposes and not as payment for supporting the coup, and he stated that he did not report the plot due to uncertainty about whom to inform. The trial involves six defendants, including retired military personnel, who face serious charges, and the proceedings have been adjourned to May 12 to address the admissibility of the video evidence.
