Senator Adams Oshiomhole of Edo North has asserted that the current Senate Standing Orders disqualify Senate President Godswill Akpabio from holding his position, citing inconsistencies with the established rules. In an interview with Arise Television, Oshiomhole supported the views of Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN) regarding the need to amend the Senate Standing Orders, emphasizing that the debate surrounding this issue is ongoing. He explained that Akpabio's previous tenure as Senate President, combined with his current term, does not meet the eight-year minimum requirement for eligibility, as stipulated by the rules. Oshiomhole also highlighted the implications of the term "consecutively" in the regulations, which he believes could lead to detrimental governance practices in the country.
