Public affairs analyst Mahmud Jega has highlighted significant challenges facing the opposition in the upcoming 2027 general elections, primarily due to internal divisions. During an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Jega pointed out that despite previous commitments to unity among opposition leaders, recent developments indicate a fragmentation that could hinder their ability to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He noted that while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has managed to maintain its cohesion, the two remaining governors from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi and Oyo states are reportedly considering alliances with smaller parties, potentially to support former President Goodluck Jonathan's candidacy. Jega cautioned that if the opposition fails to consolidate its efforts and fields multiple candidates, it would significantly complicate their electoral prospects.
