A military air strike on Tumfa market in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 72 individuals, according to reports from AFP. Community leader Garba Ibrahim Mashema indicated that the chaos following the strike left many bodies "blown beyond recognition," complicating efforts to ascertain the true death toll. The market, which is said to be under the control of bandits, was crowded with vendors and shoppers at the time of the attack, including young girls selling food items. Amnesty International has reported that the death toll may exceed 100, while also highlighting the urgent need for an investigation into the incident and calling for accountability regarding civilian casualties in conflict-affected areas.
