A fire outbreak in the Mandate Ultra-Modern Market in Ilorin, Kwara State, resulted in the destruction of at least 24 shops in the early hours of Tuesday. The Kwara State Fire Service received an emergency call at approximately 4:44 a.m. and promptly dispatched firefighters to the scene; however, the fire had already spread significantly by the time they arrived. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge, originating from a shop selling phone accessories and charging services before extending to adjacent shops containing foodstuffs and other goods. The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, visited the site to express condolences to affected traders and emphasized the importance of implementing fire safety measures within the market.
