The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported an incident at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) on Tuesday, where its operatives were allegedly attacked while attempting to verify a medical report related to an ongoing fraud case. The suspect in question is currently under remand by Justice M.A. Onyetunu of the Federal High Court in Uyo, facing charges of defrauding multiple microfinance banks, including the University of Uyo Microfinance Bank. According to a statement from Dele Oyewale, the EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, the agency had previously made two written requests to the hospital management for confirmation of the medical report but received no response. During the visit, EFCC operatives were reportedly locked inside the hospital and faced hostility from staff, leading to a warning from the Commission about the legal obligations of public institutions to cooperate with its investigations.
