Titus Amba, the President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, has raised alarms regarding the federal government's decision to waive the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) requirement for candidates seeking admission into Colleges of Education (CoEs). Speaking at the 21st Century Teachers Workshop, which was held in collaboration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Amba articulated that this waiver could potentially compromise the quality of education and the caliber of teachers produced in the country. He emphasized the importance of maintaining rigorous admission standards to ensure that future educators are well-prepared for their roles in the classroom.
