Ghana's President John Mahama has authorized the evacuation of 300 Ghanaian nationals from South Africa in response to recent xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced this decision on Tuesday through a statement on his X handle, highlighting that the affected individuals had registered with the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria for evacuation assistance. Ablakwa emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens, both domestically and internationally. The evacuation comes amid reports of violence and harassment against foreign-owned businesses, particularly in regions such as KwaZulu-Natal and Durban, prompting other African nations, including Nigeria, to take similar actions for their citizens.
