The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria has stated that there is no credible evidence to support claims of civilian casualties resulting from an air strike on Tumfa market in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. This announcement follows reports from various sources, including AFP, which indicated that at least 72 individuals were killed and that the death toll could be as high as 100, according to Amnesty International. The DHQ emphasized that the air strike was conducted in accordance with international humanitarian law, targeting a confirmed gathering of militant leaders based on reliable intelligence. Michael Onoja, the spokesperson for the DHQ, noted that while immediate verification of casualties was challenging, subsequent assessments suggested that several militants were neutralized in the operation.
