The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, disclosed that discussions with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso regarding their potential defection to the party were unsuccessful due to disagreements over conditions they proposed. Baba-Ahmed stated that both politicians sought a guarantee for the party's presidential ticket without facing internal competition, which the PRP does not endorse. He emphasized that the party requires all members to participate in the electoral process fairly, asserting that if Obi and Kwankwaso are indeed strong candidates, they should not shy away from competition. Following the failed negotiations, the two politicians ultimately chose to align with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) instead.
