Local government workers in Benue State commenced a 14-day warning strike on Thursday, following a directive from the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). The union's leadership, represented by President Joshua Adiniya and Secretary Aséneshi Yusuf, issued a notification citing the government's failure to pay salaries for March and April 2026, along with other pending issues such as promotions and the reinstatement of disengaged workers. Despite previous reminders and opportunities for dialogue, the union stated that the government had not addressed their concerns, prompting the decision to strike. This action marks the first strike by local government workers during Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration, coinciding with the lead-up to upcoming general elections.
