Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State and a prominent presidential aspirant for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 elections, has publicly criticized the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan. In an interview with News Central TV, Obi alleged that Amupitan is operating under directives from President Bola Tinubu, claiming that he recently communicated this concern in a letter to the INEC chairman. Obi emphasized that public office is transient and expressed disappointment in the current leadership of INEC, stating that the use of academic professionals has not improved the electoral process. His remarks come as political tensions rise in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, raising questions about the neutrality of the electoral body.
