The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory in response to a cluster of hantavirus cases linked to cruise ship travel across multiple countries, despite Nigeria not having any reported cases of the disease. The NCDC is actively monitoring the situation and has emphasized the importance of maintaining high surveillance for emerging infectious diseases. In its advisory, the agency urged Nigerians to uphold cleanliness, properly store food, safely dispose of waste, and prevent rodent infestations. Additionally, the public is advised to avoid contact with rodents and to implement effective infection prevention and control measures within communities and healthcare facilities.
