In the first quarter of 2026, humanitarian efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo reached approximately 3.6 million individuals, which is nearly 38 percent of the target set in the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP). The response occurred amid ongoing insecurity, population displacement, and significant access challenges, particularly in the eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, and Tanganyika. Women and children constituted the majority of those receiving assistance, with critical needs in protection and basic social services remaining high. As of March 31, 2026, the HNRP had secured $424.5 million of the required $1.4 billion, reflecting a funding level of 30.2 percent, while coverage gaps persisted in several sectors, including Education and Multipurpose Cash Assistance, raising concerns about the adequacy of the humanitarian response in light of the escalating needs across the country.
