A Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan has ruled that a couple's 30 years of cohabitation and procreation do not constitute a legal marriage. The court's President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, delivered this judgment on Friday in response to a petition filed by Mujidat Oladimeji, who sought the dissolution of their relationship. The court emphasized that without a formal marriage ceremony, their union is classified as cohabitation rather than a legally recognized marriage. This ruling underscores the legal distinctions between cohabitation and marriage in Nigerian law.
