The Federal High Court in Abuja has imposed a fine of ₦1 million on Johnmary Jideobi, the plaintiff in a case aimed at preventing former President Goodluck Jonathan from running in the 2027 presidential election. Justice Peter Lifu criticized both Jideobi and his lawyer, Ndubuisi Ukpai, for their lack of diligence, noting that Jideobi had failed to serve the necessary documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) since filing the suit on October 6, 2025. The judge expressed concern over the plaintiff's absence from court proceedings and the apparent disregard for the legal process, stating that the case had been hindered by the plaintiff's inaction. The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 18, 2026, requiring the defendants to respond by that date.
