The Justice and Rights Initiative (JRI) and the Human Rights Law Service (HURILAWS) have raised concerns regarding the inadequate implementation of the Benue State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) of 2019, which was enacted seven years ago. They highlighted that this lack of effective enforcement has contributed significantly to the ongoing congestion in prisons across the state. The rights groups emphasized the urgent need for the government to address these implementation challenges to alleviate the overcrowding and improve the overall justice system in Benue.
