The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has reported that the institution, which has an 850-bed capacity, is currently overstretched as it serves over five million patients. UCTH is not only the sole tertiary healthcare facility in Cross River State but also provides medical services to residents of neighboring states, including Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi. This high patient volume has raised concerns regarding the hospital's capacity to adequately meet the healthcare needs of the population it serves.
