The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared the Ebola outbreak, which has affected the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring Uganda, a public health emergency of international concern. This declaration follows reports of over 300 suspected cases and 88 fatalities linked to the rare virus. The WHO clarified that while the situation is serious, it does not fulfill the criteria for a pandemic emergency similar to that of COVID-19. In light of the outbreak, the organization has issued recommendations to mitigate the spread of the virus.
