The Ogun State Government has confirmed that all individuals affected by the gas incident in Ijebu-Ode have fully recovered and been discharged from medical facilities. Health Commissioner Dr. Tomi Coker provided this update during a meeting with parents, guardians, and community members at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School. The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved suspected methane gas leakage that impacted over 100 students and teachers across several schools, including Our Lady’s Grammar School and Anglican Girls Grammar School. Dr. Coker noted that while methane is non-toxic, it can displace oxygen and lead to symptoms such as dizziness and breathing difficulties; however, no severe cases were reported. The state government has taken proactive measures by deploying ambulances and environmental officers to the area, installing gas analysers around the affected schools, and ensuring ongoing surveillance to maintain safety.
