The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) regarding the Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. This decision follows the confirmation of the virus in eight samples from an outbreak that has resulted in 246 suspected cases and 80 deaths in the Ituri Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including fatalities among healthcare workers. Uganda has reported two imported cases, with no local transmission identified as of the latest updates. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has issued recommendations for countries in the Americas Region in light of this emergency, emphasizing the need for vigilance despite the region currently being unaffected.
