The World Health Organization (WHO) has released its Situation Report No. 9 detailing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, particularly focusing on Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen from May 1 to May 14, 2026. The report highlights that approximately 115 million people in the region require humanitarian assistance, which accounts for 48% of the global total. Despite a ceasefire declared on April 17, attacks on healthcare facilities in Lebanon have persisted, with WHO verifying 15 attacks that resulted in 12 fatalities and 21 injuries as of May 13. Additionally, the report indicates significant health challenges in Syria, including a rise in measles cases and suspected Hepatitis A infections, while Iraq faces vaccine supply delays and Yemen's humanitarian operations are hindered by regional instability.
